Things I Like Right Now

Here are some things I like right now:

new Sturgill Simpson album “Mutiny At Midnight”

I really like Sturg. His albums all vary by sound, but keep some of that rockin' country feel in all of them. The newest one is a funky, sexy, rockin album about smooching and the state of the country. Sturg dropped the whole thing on youtube a couple weeks before it was supposed to be released. It's made me really want to get that premium super no ad youtube.

Train videos from Norway

I spend most mornings flipping on a train video from Norway. Not the band Train performing in Norway or a Norwegian Train cover band, but a train conductor filming the train's journey through beautiful Norway. I love staring at the mountains, all the snow and zooming through a tunnel is always exciting to see what's on the other side. Big fan of this channel: Rail Cow Girl

Reese's Peanut Butter Oreos

duh

Terror Tacos

My favorite restaurant in St. Louis. Vegan tacos that blow my mind. If I'm not eating Terror Tacos once a week, there is something terribly wrong.

Quick Hits:

walking around the neighborhood, playing shows that go well, David Byrne's cover of Olivia Rodrigo's “drivers license”, any cat sitting on your lap, The Godzilla X Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles mashup action figures.

I also really like looking at my Omega Mart mug

oh! and I like you! Smell ya later.

Tiny D 2026

Oh baby. Here we are. 2026. Also, it's that time of the year when I enter the annual NPR Tiny Desk Contest. Never in a million years do I think I would ever win this contest of the tiny desk. I do really like performing a song somewhere though and making a little video. This year I had the very bright idea of going to my parent's farm, dressing their ATV up like a little monster and rocking around it. I had this idea a few days before I decided to go shoot it and also decided to do this on a day where it was very cold and very windy. I think it was 12 degrees and a real feel of negative one million. When I was done I tried to pack up but my hands were so cold and red I couldn't grab things so I had to run inside and warm up awhile. That's the dedication Superfun Yeah Yeah Rocketship has to rocking and rolling for the people. Can you believe it? What a trooper. What a talent. I hope you enjoy my dumb video and I look forward to year of being fun and dumb. We need it. Let's go!

Rockin around the Xmas tree

December is coming in HOT. I'm busy this month. Maybe busier than I should be? Who truly knows. BUT I am very excited. Missouri is getting me THREE times in December.

I'm hitting Festus, MO Friday 12/5 with Matt F Basler. I've played with Matt a million times over the years and we've both been kicking around and trying to make things happen. Matt and the crew put on a helluva show with a dash of silly thrown in. Can't wait for that one.

I got asked to play at Blue Strawberry for the first time opening for the band The Scheming Ministers. I've never seen them before, but they look like a ton of fun. There's a few places I still haven't played in STL and I'm ready to check Blue Strawberry off the list. That one is Wednesday 12/17.

12/19 I am back for the annual holiday show with Celia's Yuletide Express at The Schlafly Tap Room. Every year local legend Celia gathers her crew and they bust out a bunch of holiday shows and it is a blast. The stage is always packed with musicians and singers and you're going to get some jingle bells. Very thankful Celia has me back every year for this. It's a great way to end the year and to get full of that holiday cheer. Oh and it's a free show. This is the one time I bust out some of my holiday songs. Crab Walk? How about Christmas Crab Walk? Loop Trolley Anthem? How about A Loop Trolley Christmas? If you take an existing song of yours, add jingle bells and change some words to be about Santa…you've got yourself a Xmas song.

Hey. Thanks for reading this. Thanks for liking me. I'm so thankful to still be goofin off. Hope to see you in December.

A look back at an awesome October

I'm taking a look back at October. What a wild month for your baby Superfun. I played my 1000th show, I traveled to Texas and I played a comedy show with a bunch of wrestlers. Let's dig in dude!

Wow, 1000th show. What a delight. If my calculations were correct, that was show 1000 on October 3rd of this year 2025. Also just happened to be the anniversary of the very first Superfun show. I always want to do something on October 3rd to celebrate so this was my lil scheme for this year. I pulled out a bunch of old songs I haven't played in years and probably won't play some of those ever again. I also wrote a new song the weekend before and played that and it's one of my favorite songs to play now. Let me tell you something St. Louis. I had such a great time at this show, everyone there was awesome. I appreciate anyone who has come out to a Superfun show in the last 100 years. Honestly though, the attendance to this one though was pretty rough. Maybe it's the dreaded algorithm and no one even knows I'm playing a show, but local show attendance has been pretty dang low recently and it's getting to me. That combined with the previously mentioned algorithm just killing anything I post about…it is a lil bonkers trying to stay positive sometimes. Maybe you're tired of ol Superfun, maybe you've got a lot going on, I don't know what it is. I miss ya. I'm still trying my best. It's hard out there trying to be a lil ding dong. I am thankful to anyone who takes their time to go see a small artist out there. THANK YOU. Ddare Bionic and Grain played the show with me. Two of my favorite local artists. How there isn't a crowd of 400 people going to every one of their shows, I don't understand. Grain makes me laugh harder than almost anything. Anyway, I hope to see you at a show. If you have a suggestion on how to improve the Superfun show experience, please let me know and put the suggestion in the suggestion box.

I took off down to Texas and played in Houston and Austin. I played at Super Happy Fun Land in Houston and had not been there in so long. It was very much the same as I remembered. Full of so much wild stuff inside that place, it's fun to just look around. I had a slight meltdown because my tablet I play my songs out of was dead and would not charge, but it came back to life. Maybe for the first time since I've been doing it...someone ruined the jump. If you don't know I often jump over someone at shows. This time the person jumped up as I was about to jump over them and started dancing. I was a lil pissy about it, I regret my tude. If you're going to volunteer to be a part of a show...don't then just go out of your way to screw up the show? Ergh. I didn't do the jump the next night in Austin and have scaled back on it a bit. I'm overthinking it too much. Austin was great, played with a bunch of rad bands and saw my old pal Dan aka The Bassturd who I had not seen since 2019. Got to play at Hole In The Wall where Patty Griffin got her start. My pals Koo Koo were in town playing the ACL festival and invited me along the next day so we got to roam around the festival and eat catering and get free lil coffees. I love a lil coffee. I absolutely love a FREE lil coffee. Wonderful to see the Koo boys. They invited me up to Minneapolis in December and they'll be down here in St. Louis in February. They took me on tour with them a few years back and I am forever grateful for that experience.

Finally, another completely wild thing that happened in October. I played The All Elite Comedy Show here in St. Louis. I've been a wrestling fan since I was a tiny Superfun. Colt Cabana and RJ City, two of the talents involved with All Elite Wrestling have been putting on comedy shows around some of their bigger events. When I saw AEW was coming to St. Louis for a pay per view, I immediately reached out to Colt to see if we could make it happen here in STL. Colt Cabana changed the game when it comes to independent wrestling. He pulled in the comedy world, had really the first wrestling podcast for 10 years and had a top notch merch game that helped other independent wrestlers figure out they could sell merch successfully. I had met Colt years ago and at some point he asked me to make some music for him for something and that has continued on and off for years now. SO I hit up Colt and they were down to have the comedy show here, I found us a venue and I got to open up the show. A sold out show of a bunch of wrestler's goofing around in a small intimate venue? As a lil wrestling dork, it was a dream. I got to jump AEW referee Bryce Remsburg that night. I met Bryce during his time in Chikara wrestling where I made a song about an injured wrestling pigeon and we've kept in touch over the years. It was great to see him again even though our show made him a little late to see They Might Be Giants that night. Former WCW cruiserweight champion Dean Malenko saw me sing "Truck Nuts", Jeff Jarrett and Tony Schiavone were there and were sweeties. Harley Cameron sang a hilarious song that is still burned in my brain, RJ is a hilarious host. Everyone was great. Fun times. Thanks to everyone that came.

Hey thanks for reading all this. I think I'm going to do this more often. New song out Friday.

Cat Butt Dreamland

Hello!

What a time to be alive! I've got a few things rolling around here in Superfunland. First of all, I've had a dream of having a Superfun shirt with cats on the front and their butts on the back for YEARS and it is finally here! My friend Juliette drew it for me and I absolutely love it. It's my 3 cats (Minky Boodle, Baby Dave and Boo Baby) with lil Superfun wear on. You can order it now!

I had big plans for March, but life kind of got in the way. Had a real stressful week in there, but things are lookin up! Hoping April goes much much better. I'm playing LA on April 10th! Cinema Bar in Culver City! Come party! I'll be in LA for about a week bopping around. I'm already going to a puppet show, seeing La Roux in a tiny club, Atsuko Okatsuka, going to a mysterious “museum” and seeing John C. Reilly sing love songs. If you know if anything I should see when I'm out there, let me know!

Also heading back to Carbondale, IL in April! I love playing in Carbondale! Let me tell you, I often play shows and I'm like “this should be a fun party, why can't we all be silly and be wild” playing in Carbondale at Lost Cross awhile back the crowd was 1000% on board with this and it was so much fun. I often just get some people standing and looking at me, which I love too, but when it's a party it's such a blast.

Here's some stuff I'm into currently:

Music: new Lady Gaga album, De'Wayne, new Sleigh Bells songs, Limp Bizkit

TV stuff: Josh Johnson and Chris Fleming videos, the movie Heretic was fun, Severance is nice always

Books: Slowed down on books this year but I listened to some of Dick Valentine's audiobooks finally and really dig them. Just started Bob The Drag Queen's book “Harriet Tubman: Live In Concert: A Novel”

Food: Terror Tacos every friday, the vegan caramel chocolate popcorn stuff from Trader Joe's, oatmilk Lindt truffle balls

Ever since I went to Omega Mart in Vegas last year I've been kind of obsessed with learning all I can and wanting to visit the other Meow Wolf locations. Seeing Denver in June and back to Vegas later this year. Hoping for a Texas double whammy later this year.

Hey! I think that's all I got. I appreciate you.

Tiny Desk Entry 2025

Hello Superfunatics,

Here I am, telling you once again that I have entered the Tiny Desk Contest. This is the year. I'm probably going to win. I can't believe it. What an incredible performance. You may watch the video for “Booty Scoot” now. Thanks! I appreciate you!

CART LEAVER!

Don't ya just hate it when people don't put their shopping carts away? I SURE DO! So I wrote a song about it. It's out now wherever you like to listen to music. You can buy it right here on my MUSIC! page if you like.

The year is about to wrap up! I'll make a lil update later about my year and what next year holds, but that's later.

I hope you're doing great. I hope you got rich this year.

LA! Vegas!

Hot dog! Superfun is headin west! I'm going back to Los Angeles and Las Vegas in November! Head over to the shows page for more info. I'm excited to have some fun and dumb shows out west and meet some new and old Superfunatics along the way! Also, very ready to eat donuts in these places. I'm going to take a little trek over to Bakersfield, CA while I'm out there to visit the Buck Owens Crystal Palace! I was very bummed to see it was put up for sale this year. I've got my little fingers crossed it'll be open and kicking when I head that way. I am a big fan of the music of Buck Owens and can't wait to stare at all his stuff! Here's a photo of me with Buck frozen in carbonite when I was on tour with Koo Koo back in 2017 when we got to do a quick speed run through The Crystal Palace on our way to a show in San Diego.
